We need transgender visibility on the National Survey!

 In: Announcements

You have a chance to ask the Biden administration to once again collect data on the needs of transgender elders. Every year, the federal government conducts a survey on whether we are meeting the needs of the most vulnerable older people in our nation. Obama added a transgender question.  Trump removed it. Because this survey is undergoing some changes, the administration is seeking public commentsAs a result, we have a unique opportunity to tell the Biden administration why we want it to reinstate the transgender question.

Why is this so important? The more data we have, the more we can learn about the impact of COVID-19 on transgender older people. As it stands now, we can’t.

That’s why we need you to speak out. Now through May 3, you can share your story of why we need trans visibility on the National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants (NSOAAP) by clicking HERE. The Administration for Community Living (ACL), which runs the survey, needs to hear from you and other leaders in the aging and LGBTQ+ community. Read more about the ACL comment period including a question on transgender identity here

Unsure of what to say in your comment? We’ve prepared this ACL Comment Guide to help you share your voice. Be sure to infuse your comment with a personal touch to tell ACL that transgender elders refuse to be invisible, and deserve to be counted. Please submit your comment today.
