Director of Outreach and Intergenerational Programs
SAGE is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older people. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources to LGBTQ+ older people and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, provides education and technical assistance for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging, and cultural competence training through SAGECare. SAGE supports a growing network of 70+ SAGECollab Partners across the country.
Summary: The primary function of the Director of Outreach and Intergenerational Programs is to oversee designated programs, including Outreach and Community Engagement, Volunteer and Corporate Engagement, TGNB Outreach and Programs, and Intergenerational Programs. The Director oversees program planning, administration and management, as well as the development of new programming to meet constituents’ needs. The Director supervises multiple staff, both in and outside of New York City. The position is also in charge of representing the agency and Outreach and Intergenerational Programs at conferences and speaking events and to the press. This position reports to and is supervised by the Senior Director, SAGEServes Programs, and must work closely with the Supportive Services Team, the Executive Director of SAGEServes, and the Executive Team.
The individual holding the position of Director should have a working knowledge of aging and LGBTQ+ communities, as well as experience in program management and providing supervision to multiple staff. They need to be able to interact with, relate to, and work with LGBTQ+ older adults, as well as other service providers and community partners. They ideally should also have familiarity with the requirements of City or State Funding Agencies that support not-for-profit programs and services.
Reports to: Senior Director, SAGEServes Programs
Status: Full-time / Exempt, Salaried position
Schedule: Generally, 9:30 – 5:30, Monday-Friday; regular schedule variances to occur in accordance with program or business necessity; schedule adjustments for example for weekend events during Pride Month (June). This is a Hybrid position, you are required to come into the office 3 days a week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide principal oversight of designated programs, including Outreach and Community Engagement, Volunteer and Corporate Engagement, TGNB Outreach and Programs, and Intergenerational Programs.
- Supervise department staff, both in and outside of New York City
- Work with the Development Department to submit proposals for new and renewing grant funding and to submit annual funder reports
- Create and maintain program budgets
- Ensure that staff within the department are correctly entering notes into client databases like Salseforce and reporting deliverables
- As necessary, travel to locations outside of New York City for special events as they relate to these programs
- Represent the agency and Outreach and Intergenerational Programs at conferences and speaking engagements and in the press
- Participate in Director-level meetings
- Work closely with the Center Directors to ensure collaboration as it pertains to referrals and protocols between the two departments
- Work with Executive Director of SAGEServes, Executive Vice President, and with lobbyists to determine legislative agendas around older LGBTQ+ and intergenerational needs.
- Represent the agency by sitting on various New York City planning committees
- Work with the Executive Team to create models for additional programming, including work plans, budgets, and program deliverables
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred;
- A minimum of 2 years work experience working with aging and LGBTQ+ communities;
- A minimum of 2 years of experience supervising staff;
- Volunteer, outreach, TGNB, or intergenerational programming experience;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as part of a team;
- Ability to make good utilization of supervision; and
- Proficiency in PC computer skills, including database usage.
Strongly Desired Qualifications:
- Good organizational and time management skills; and
- Good presentation skills desired.
Compensation: SAGE’s salary range is $75k- $89k offers, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
