Senior Director of SAGEServes Programs

SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.

Summary: Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director of SAGEServes, SAGEServes consists of the SAGE Centers (SCs), Care Management Services (CMS) including NYC Resident Services and Caregiving, Special Programs (SP) including Friendly Visitor Program in NYC and in South Florida, SAGEVets and SAGEPositive. The Senior Director of SAGEServes Programs is a crucial role, as the position directly supervises the SAGE Centers and Outreach, and Intergenerational Programming. These departments work closely together and share centralized staffing and resources – specifically our Program Development Team and Support Staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of government contracts, including with New York City Department for the Aging (NYC Aging), New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and oversight and management of private funding sources, including program narratives, performance monitoring, site visits/virtual meetings, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Oversee and coordinate programs and operations at all SAGE Centers.
  • Oversee and coordinate outreach and intergenerational programming across SAGEServes.
  • Oversee the collection of deliverables and performance data on key indicators.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of programs and partnerships to meet the needs of LGBTQ+ older people particularly Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and transgender older adults.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring program budgets.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director of SAGEServes, assist in the preparation of the agency’s response to government and private philanthropy applications for funding/support.
  • Develop mindful and strategic programs and collaborations within the department and agency.
  • Attend community meetings and representing the SAGE Center/s externally.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community providers.
  • Create an environment that is welcoming and supportive of BIPOC and transgender participants and staff.
  • Involvement in recruiting, interviewing and hiring SAGE Center staff; and
  • All other duties, as assigned, by the Executive Director of SAGEServes

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in social work, public administration or equivalent degree. Substantial work experience (7+) in nonprofit program management, especially in the aging or LGBTQ+ fields, may be substituted for master’s degree, related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years supervisory and managerial experience.
  • Deep experience developing and supporting programs and services to BIPOC and transgender communities.
  • Entrepreneurial thinker, who is self-directed, creative and able to exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Computer proficient, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to identify and integrate the perspectives and needs of diverse communities, and an ability to work in partnership with various types and sizes of organizations a must; and
  • A commitment to the issues, constituency and values of SAGE.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Substantive knowledge of and/or prior work experience in the aging or LGBTQ+ fields, including working knowledge of history and issues facing marginalized older people, including BIPOC and transgender elders
  • Fluency (verbal and written) in Spanish
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize activities and meet deliverables under deadlines
  • Knowledge and database management experience with PeerPlace/STARS and AIRS is strongly preferred
  • Capacity and a desire to gain new skills and knowledge to drive innovative programming to Black Indigenous and Communities of Color (BIPOC) and transgender communities
  • Cultural and linguistic competency in regard to age, ability, sexuality, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, class and other characteristics that affect the lives of diverse older adults and shape the nature of the SAGE’s endeavors; and
  • Understanding of performance measurement and management, and a strong desire to implement metrics to evaluate the impact and the effectiveness of SAGE

Status: Full-time, Exempt, 35 hours per week
Location: Hybrid, minimum two (2) days required at SAGE Centers in Brooklyn, Harlem,
Midtown, and SAGE Administrative Offices located at 305 7th Avenue, 6th Floor, New York, New York 10001, and around New York City ad lib. Coverage for more days may be required depending on opening/closing schedule of SAGE Administrative Offices
Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:30 am EST to 5:30 pm EST and occasional after-hours or
Weekend schedule with comp days/time, as needed
Salary Range: $109k- $117K
Reports to: SAGEServes Executive Director
