SAGEVets Program Manager
SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.
SAGEVenture is SAGE’s newly launched social enterprise division—an incubator for innovative products and services that focus on LGBTQ+ older adults and build sustainable funding models. SAGEVenture has a growing portfolio, including launching a new healthcare product, expanding its cornerstone SAGECare product, providing culturally competent training for providers, and exploring additional ventures that advance its mission and purpose.
Summary: SAGEVets is a statewide program for LGBTQ+ veterans age 50 and older, offering outreach and education to providers and individuals throughout New York State and screening for VA benefits including medical, employment, pension, and education. The program provides social and educational programming, case management, referrals to legal counsel for discharge upgrades specific to sexual orientation, and access to health care and service-related disability benefits. The manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing all activities of the SAGEVets Program, including participant outreach, presentation, networking, program development, intake, case management and referral, and is an integral part of the Special Programs team. Knowledge of aging, LGBTQ+ communities, and VA systems strongly desired. Preference for a veteran of US military service and/or someone who has experience working with military veterans. The job requires local travel and some travel around the state.
Responsibilities:
- Performing outreach to connect with NYC and NYS LGBTQ+ vets over age 50
- Presenting about SAGEVets to various audiences, including elected officials, older adults, veterans, service providers and LGBTQ+ communities
- Supervising program staff
- Meeting with providers, elected officials, and other potential community partners to educate them about SAGEVets and foster collaboration
- Engaging in political advocacy and networking to increase community awareness of LGBTQ+ veterans and their needs
- Performing intakes and case management duties for veterans
- Working in partnership with internal and external partners to create social, recreational, and educational programs for older LGBTQ+ vets
- Creating promotional materials for SAGEVets programs
- Tracking contacts and outreach efforts
- Other duties as requested
Required Qualifications:
- B.A. in social work or a related field, or sufficient salaried experience in a program manager role and/or with LGBTQ+ older adults and/or veterans
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as to be an involved member of the Special Programs team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to organize files, reports, schedules, dates, and information
- Self-directed and able to work with light supervision
- Computer literate, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn other pertinent software systems and data bases
- Ability to travel throughout NYC and NYS via public transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference for a veteran of US military service and/or someone who has experience working with military veterans
- Knowledge of US military service, history and/or VA systems
- Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities and/or older adults
- Background in peer group supervision
- Case management experience
- Familiarity with issues of cultural and linguistic competency with regards to ability, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, gender identity and expression, and other characteristics that affect the lives of diverse older adults
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred

Status: Full-time, Exempt
Location: Hybrid
Schedule: Monday to Friday 9:30 am-5:30 pm with very occasional evening or weekend hours for special events
Salary Range:$64,000-$69,000
Reports to: Director of Special Programs
