Friendly Visitor Program Manager
SAGE is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization as well as a local direct service provider in New York City, that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations.
Summary
The primary function of the Friendly Visitor Program Manager (FVPM) is to oversee the program including recruiting, screening, training, and clinical supervising of volunteers, as well as screening and maintaining ongoing contact with program clients. The role also involves ongoing program outreach and promotion, and data management/record keeping of matches. The FVPM position reports to and is supervised by the Director of Special Programs and is an essential component of the Special Programs team, working closely with other employees within the department as well as with Care Management and with SAGE Center staff. The individual holding this position must be able to interact with, relate to, and work with LGBTQ+ older adults as well as other service providers and community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hold a caseload of approximately 10-15 vulnerable clients, which may increase with need, as well as input all client notes into appropriate databases
- Supervise Friendly Visitor (FV) volunteers, create and maintain volunteer files, distribute MetroCards for volunteer travel to visits, and provide support through regular emails, phone calls, and face to face visits
- Co-lead bi-monthly supervision meetings for the FV Program
- Perform program assessments for all new prospective FV clients
- Screen all prospective volunteers through one-on-one interviews
- Co-lead quarterly day-long trainings for prospective volunteers of the FV Program
- Match volunteers of the FV Program with clients
- Conduct home visits to clients as needed
- Consult with Care Managers around client situations and perform follow-up from volunteer feedback
- Collect monthly reports from volunteers, offering direct feedback to each report and forwarding appropriate concerns to Care Managers
- Supervise 1-2 interns directly working in the FV Program
- Facilitate programmatic support group(s)
- Oversee the Friendly Visitor Program budget, ensuring that spending falls within the annual program budgets
- Coordinate and implement annual FV Picnic, FV Conference, and volunteer appreciation events
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 2-3 years’ experience working with aging and/or LGBTQ+ communities in program and/or volunteer management
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Ability to take and make good utilization of supervision
- Proficiency in PC computer skills, including database usage
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred
- LMSW preferred; SIFI (Supervision in Field Instruction) Certified or on the path for certification
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good presentation skills
- Experience in peer group facilitation
- Outreach experience
Status: Full-time
Location: In accordance with the programs or locations assigned, plus occasional travel to various SAGE and other locations within the NYC metropolitan area.
Salary range:$61k to $66k
