Civic Engagement Coordinator
SAGE is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, organize, train, and develop grassroots LGBTQ+ elder community activists and their allies with our coalition partners, to take effective collective action to influence policymakers to support LGBTQ+ rights at the federal, state, and local levels;
- Steward relationships with LGBTQ+ older people, older people living with HIV, and influencers in the aging and business sectors, to leverage their power and influence policymakers through meetings, letters-to-the-editor, and/or other forms of engagement;
- Create and run advocacy and engagement campaigns that aim to drive comments, letters, and calls to government agencies and elected officials;
- Act as point-person with Communications Team on strategy for digital engagement with stakeholders. This includes, but is not limited to, email writing and scheduling, social media work, website copy, and more;
- Lead collaboration on behalf of advocacy team with other departments to manage database of volunteers, activists, SAGECollab partners, and others;
- Assist Director of Coalition Building in building and maintaining organizational partnerships with advocacy organizations through our SAGECollab program, including facilitation of virtual advocacy meetings;
- Handle logistics of planning meetings with elected officials, as necessary, including:
- Scheduling appointments; soliciting, coordinating, and training groups of constituents for meetings; taking meeting notes and capturing feedback/next steps; and managing continued engagement/follow-up.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Services, Education, Communications, Management, Non-profit Leadership, Public Administration, or related field.
- Experience performing community outreach, including creating and implementing targeted outreach plans.
- Experience collaborating with other CBOs, and producing/implementing community–based programming
- Ability to travel on public transport to outreach locations
- Computer-proficient; ability to learn pertinent regulatory and agency software and database programs
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to perform multiple tasks while maintaining an appropriate level of customer service
- Flexible and dependable
Reports to: Managing Director of Government Affairs and Policy Advocacy
Status: Full-time / Exempt
Location: The position may be fully remote or based on a hybrid model in our New York City office, willingness to travel is a must
Salary range: SAGE offers a competitive salary and benefits package. This position’s salary range is $57,000-$67,000
