Tell the Administration: We Will NOT Be Erased
Every day, millions of older Americans rely on services like senior centers, transportation assistance, home-delivered meals, and caregiver support. Today, the Trump administration announced plans to roll back regulations in the Older Americans Act (OAA) that help LGBTQ+ elders and older people with HIV access these essential services. This latest federal assault on our communities will only make it harder for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV to age with security and dignity.
SAGE is fighting back, and we want you to be a part of that fight.
Your Story Matters
Submit a personal story about why these services are vital to LGBTQ+ older people and people aging with HIV. SAGE will share your comment with the government to show why these rollbacks are UNACCEPTABLE.
The administration needs to hear the impact these services have on real people. Here are some examples of powerful stories we’ve heard from our SAGE community:
“Mary,” a 75-year-old trans woman in Georgia: “I was called ”sir” and told ”I’ll pray for your soul” in my own home by a volunteer delivering meals that I desperately needed. I decided to withdraw from the meal program rather than risk experiencing that hate again.”
“Arthur,” a 60-year-old gay man in Michigan: “The services provided through OAA funding are vital to our older people, but many of us in the community go back into the closet to get the support we need or don’t access them at all because of fears about how we’ll be treated.”
“Chantel,” a retired elder care provider in Texas: “Too many times, I’ve seen that care aides, meal providers, and other staff in organizations funded by the OAA often have cultural or faith-based objections to the mere existence of LGBTQ+ people.”
Whether you are an older person, a person living with HIV, a caregiver, a service provider, a friend, a family member, or an ally, YOUR voice matters.
