We Look Out for Our Community

We make aging better for LGBTQ+ people nationwide. How? We show up and speak out for the issues that matter to us. We teach. We answer your questions. We connect — generations, each other and allies. We win. And together, we celebrate.

National LGBTQ+ Housing Initiative

One of the most significant concerns for LGBTQ+ elders is safe, affordable housing. According to an Equal Rights Center report, 48% of older same-sex couples applying for elder housing were subjected to discrimination. Discrimination puts LGBTQ+ elders at greater risk for chronic health problems, social isolation, poverty, and premature mortality.

Advocacy for LGBTQ+ People

SAGE stands proudly with LGBTQ+ pioneers and all people charting their own path through aging – fighting for the right to live with dignity, respect, and pride.

Working alongside SAGECollab partners and allies nationwide, we drive change and advocate for policies that make every stage of aging safer, more equitable, and more affirming for LGBTQ+ communities.

Explore Services in New York and Florida

SAGEServes creates ever-growing opportunities to serve our community’s older people and support their unique needs. We do this through direct services at our four SAGE Centers and care management programs in New York City, programs designed to support LGBTQ+ elders across New York State, and programs designed for LGBTQ+ elders in Southern Florida.

Connect Across Generations

Friendly visiting programs are a proven way to alleviate isolation and rebuild communities across generations. The SAGE Friendly Visitor program, founded in 1979 and the first of its kind in the U.S., matches volunteers from the community with LGBTQ+ elders (“Friends at Home”) to form relationships that are mutually rewarding and build community.

“I feel that SAGE has been a great help to me. SAGE has helped me create and stick to a budget. Taught me the importance of having a savings account and adding to it, even if it is only a small amount monthly. I’m grateful for the resources available to me from SAGE.”
