Serena Worthington is the Director of U.S. and Global Collaborations at SAGE. In her role, she works to raise awareness about the need for LGBT-inclusive aging polices, programs and services in communities across the country and around the globe to ensure that LGBT elders can access services and are afforded equal treatment in employment, health care, residential and supportive care settings. She oversees SAGE’s national affiliate network and convenes other organizations across the U.S. and the globe to catalyze more policies and programs in support of LGBT elders through: coalition building; relationship development; capacity building; and the provision of technical assistance to a range of local, regional, national and global organizations.
A veteran in aging services and advocacy, she frequently presents at national conferences, sharing her passion and expertise on LGBT aging issues. Prior to joining SAGE, she was the Senior Director of Public Programs of Chicago’s Center on Halsted, the Midwest’s largest LGBT community center. Before joining Center on Halsted, Serena served as the Life Enrichment Director at Norwood Crossing, a nonprofit assisted living and long-term care facility, where she founded a comprehensive Expressive Arts program.
