SAGE Receives $300,000 Grant to Support LGBT Seniors
Funds from the Walmart Foundation to support SAGEWorks in Six U.S. Cities
SAGEWorks is the only national program designed to improve the capacity of LGBT older adults to remain productive, vital and contributing members of the nation’s workforce. In addition to serving increasing numbers of New York City's LGBT older adults, SAGE has a demonstrated track record of strategically leveraging its network of 24 SAGE affiliates in 18 states and the District of Columbia to replicate SAGEWorks in local communities across the country. Entering its third programmatic year, SAGEWorks has built strong and reciprocal relationships with community partners as well as prospective employers and multiple chambers of commerce to build employment pipelines for LGBT older adults. SAGEWorks participants are successfully finding employment and improving their lives.
“Economic security is vital to healthy aging, and SAGEWorks provides LGBT older people with the training and resources they need to navigate today’s job market,” said Michael Adams, executive director, SAGE. “This important grant from Walmart will allow us to extend the program’s reach, offering many more LGBT elders across the nation access to employment opportunities and financial stability.”
The Walmart Foundation supports organizations like SAGE that create opportunities so people can live better, awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.
“The Walmart Foundation is proud to support SAGE’s national outreach program which will help improve the lives of so many LGBT seniors,” said Mark Espinoza, senior director, Walmart corporate affairs. “We look forward to helping SAGE continue their great work in communities across the U.S.”
