Timothy J. Atkin Joins the Board of SAGE
Atkin, SRA's Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and Chief of Staff, brings extensive organizational management background to SAGE's national Board of Directors.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Tim to our national Board, especially as we build on past success to shape a new strategic plan to guide SAGE in the coming years,” said Rosalyn Richter, Co-Chair of SAGE’s Board of Directors. “With his extensive past and current board work, as well as significant government and corporate experience, Tim will bring a fresh perspective to the next phase of SAGE’s work to improve the lives of LGBT older adults.”
“I am thrilled that Tim has joined SAGE’s Board of Directors and look forward to his contributions,” said Michael Adams, Executive Director of SAGE. “As a leading organizational management and IT consultant, Tim is deeply committed to improving the lives of all individuals by ensuring they are the foremost priority of the organizations that serve them. It is this philosophy that guarantees the needs and voices of LGBT older people will continue to drive SAGE’s work.”
SAGE is currently coming to the end of a five-year strategic plan that led to successes such as opening The SAGE Center, the nation’s first full-time center for LGBT older people age 60+ in New York City; the introduction of the LGBT Elder Americans Act of 2012; and the expansion of SAGE’s network of affiliates that provide programs and services for LGBT older people in communities across the country. With the number of LGBT older adults in the U.S. expected to double to 3 million by 2030, SAGE is now working with its Board, staff, volunteers, constituents, donors and other supporters nationwide to identify the most pressing needs of LGBT elders, and how to effectively address those needs.
“It is an honor to be appointed to the Board of Directors of SAGE,” said Atkin. “As someone who is rapidly approaching my 50s, and as one of the principal caregivers to my mother, I see the profound impact that aging has on us all. I applaud SAGE’s work to ensure that all people can grow older with dignity and a sense of belonging, and am excited to help further this mission by working with the rest of the Board, the staff and our stakeholders.”
