SAGE Welcomes Rahul Culas as New Board Co-Chair

Rahul Culas will join Ruth Eisenberg as Board Co-Chairs

[New York, NY] SAGE, the leading nonprofit advocating for LGBTQ+ elders, is pleased to announce Rahul Culas as the new Co-Chair of its Board of Directors, joining current Board Co-Chair Ruth Eisenberg. Culas and Eisenberg live in New York City and Washington, D.C., respectively.

“With a deep passion for SAGE’s work on behalf of LGBTQ+ elders and a proven record of strong leadership, Rahul is the perfect choice to help guide SAGE as we move forward,” SAGE CEO Michael Adams said. “We are so lucky to have him help lead our talented Board.”

Rahul Culas is a partner at 1585 Healthcare, an investment firm focused on businesses that facilitate the delivery of quality healthcare to older adults and other vulnerable populations. Culas’ focus on healthy aging is a core tenet of SAGE’s mission.

Culas brings an impressive background that bolsters his ability to effectively lead the SAGE Board under its current Strategic Plan, which focuses on elevating mission-based social enterprise. Formerly, Culas was a Partner and Managing Director at The Carlyle Group. Prior to Carlyle, Culas was Head of Structured Power Finance at Morgan Stanley. Earlier in his career, he worked at Goldman Sachs.

“SAGE spearheads initiatives that make a difference in the lives of thousands, and I am honored to be able to participate in and contribute towards its growth. How society treats elders reflects its capacity for caring,” Culas says. “I thank Kevin and my predecessors for the incredible groundwork they have laid for the Board’s continued success, and I look forward to working with Michael, Ruth, and the rest of the Board and management to help SAGE achieve its many ambitious and exciting objectives.”

The outgoing SAGE Board Co-Chair, Kevin Williams, M.D., J.D., has served for over a decade on SAGE’s Board, with six of those years as Board Co-Chair.

“Having the opportunity to serve on the SAGE Board of Directors and work with Michael Adams and his impressive staff is one of the highlights of my professional life,” Williams said. “I know that Rahul will be a strong Board Co-Chair and thought partner for Michael and Ruth, and I wish him much success as he steps into this role.”

Williams, an executive at Pfizer Internal Medicine for many years and an accomplished medical leader, was the SAGE Board Co-Chair from 2016 through 2018 and again from 2020 to 2024.

“We thank Kevin for his extensive service as Board Co-Chair and for his incomparable contributions,” Adams says. “Kevin has helped build SAGE into the robust advocates for LGBTQ+ elders that we are today, and we’re excited that he will continue to be deeply engaged in our work.”

Williams held numerous other leadership positions during his Board service with SAGE. During his time at Pfizer, Kevin led a Medical Affairs organization of approximately 700 medical colleagues around the globe supporting Pfizer’s efforts and portfolio of medicines treating primary care diseases affecting millions of patients worldwide. He has previously served on the boards of key organizations like the National LGBTQ+ Task Force and the Los Angeles LGBTQ+ Center.

“Kevin has been an exceptional co-chair. I’ve learned so much about leadership from him, and value his excellent judgment, sense of humor, and friendship,” Board Co-Chair Ruth Eisenberg said. “I look forward to working with Rahul, for whom I have great respect and affection.”
