Program Coordinator – Edie Windsor SAGE Center
SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.
Summary: The Program Coordinator is responsible for creating, planning, and implementing programming for LGBTQ older adults at Edie Windsor SAGE Center with a focus on arts & culture programming. They will collaborate with the Program Coordinator, Health & Wellness, to create, plan and implement programs and special events. The Program Coordinator supports all arts programming, such as music, dance, visual arts, literature, theater, film & video, traditional crafts & folk arts, and new media. They should have a passion for and considerable experience working with aging and/or LGBTQ communities and should ideally have some experience in programmatic design and implementation. They must be able to interact with, relate to, and work with LGBTQ older adults, community partners, and other departments at SAGE.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and promote Women’s Programming, Arts, Culture, Education, Recreation, and Technology programming at The Edie Windsor SAGE Center
- With the Health & Wellness Program Coordinator, plan, coordinate, and promote innovative and sophisticated programming for older LGBTQ women, men and the Trans/GNC communities
- Develop rapport with LGBTQ older adult participants by engaging with them regularly in the development and evaluation of programming
- Nurture a welcoming environment for participation in Center programming and activities
- Develop relationships with community partners for the purpose of creating collaborative programming opportunities
- Build strong relationships with program volunteers and consultants
- Provide administrative and technical support for programs, which may include moving and setup of audio/visual equipment and furniture, making copies, developing flyers, and other tasks
- Work independently and with team to meet programming goals and deadlines
- Maintain a regularly updated programming calendar
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for participants about all of SAGE’s services and programs and make appropriate referrals
- Assist with food service distribution as needed and act as dining room host on a weekly basis
- Represent SAGE at community events and conferences (e.g. health fairs, pride festivals) as needed
- Perform other tasks and duties related to their job responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in Arts & Culture or aging is preferred; Substantial work experience in relevant field may be substituted for degree
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience in aging field, LGBTQ service or in program development, in addition to above
- Schedule: The regular hours are Monday through Friday, 12pm-8pm, with additional hours periodically required, including during occasional weekends, for special events or as needed
- Flexible and dependable
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with SAGE’s diverse constituency
- Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team
- Strong communication skills, including public speaking
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Detail-oriented with ability to follow-through on tasks without supervision
- Computer proficient, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage programming for women as well as art & culture programming
- Familiarity with the history and issues facing marginalized older adults and the LGBTQ+ communitys
- Working knowledge of NYC Department for the Aging regulations and guidelines
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred
Department: SAGE Centers
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: SAGE Center Midtown
Schedule: Monday-Fridays, 12 pm – 8 pm, 35 hours (occasional weekends)
Salary Range: $53,000-$58,000
Reports to: Director, Edie Windsor SAGE Center
