Director of the NYC Housing Initiative
SAGE is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization as well as a local direct service provider in New York City, that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ+ older people and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ+ organizations. The Care Management Housing Specialist assists and provides services to our Participants and Clients, as described below:
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Status: Full-time / Exempt
Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours/week; generally, 9:00 – 5:00 Monday – Friday, with schedule adjustments as needed per program necessity.
Location: Position based at SAGE Stonewall House location in Brooklyn, NY, and the SAGE Crotona Pride House location in the Bronx, NY; travel between the above and other locations within the metropolitan area required, in accordance with Participants’ needs and program necessity
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement program goals, policies, initiatives, and services that support the needs of residents in NYC LGBTQ+ Elder Housing.
- Ensure that funder and participant deliverables are met, and that service unit data is thorough and submitted timely, in accord with organizational policies and regulatory mandates.
- Develop and Manage program NYC Housing budget and spending.
- Hire, train and supervise the Assistant Director of Housing and three tenant coordinators.
- Coordinate referrals from NYC Department of Homeless Services to fill vacancies with LGBTQ+ older adults on the waiting list. Monitor and maintain eligible LGBTQ+’s for priority housing.
- Review intake assessments of participants/residents in the building, directly or through referral as appropriate. Ensure that intakes and monthly case notes are submitted timely.
- Oversee the alignment and provision of clinical services to the needs of residents; including and not limited to periodic quality assurance review of case records
- Liaison and maintain relationships with culturally competent community providers and stakeholders for quality care of older adults.
- Supervise the development and implementation of the monthly activity calendars and events in collaboration with the assistant director/ tenant coordinators.
- Submission and review of internal and external monthly/bi-weekly reports and other agency regulatory documentation.
- Establish and support a 24hr on-call system for tenant emergencies, generate the needed reporting notification processes to the appropriate entities during emergencies and incidents.
- Liaison with building management and vendors, schedule and attend monthly building management meetings to coordinate services.
- Attend local provider meetings and conference on the housing and social services needs of LGBTQ+ Older Adults.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Housing to recruit, and supervise Social Work interns, volunteers; including and not limited to their engagement with constituents
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Qualifications
- Experience supervising multiple case management and or residential management staff. Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ older adults. Familiarity with homelessness and mental health issues; and or residential/shelter community.
- Valid NYS Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer-literate, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn other pertinent software systems.
- Flexible and dependable – this position requires some flexibility around scheduling; some evening or occasional weekend hours may be required.
- Willingness/ability to travel daily throughout NYC area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with LGBTQ+ aging issues and cultural and linguistic competency regarding age, ability, sexuality, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, class, and other characteristics that affect the lives of diverse older adults
- Experience with formally homeless populations
- Familiarity with social and aging services networks and supports
