About SAGE of South Florida
SAGE of South Florida is a non-profit organization that enriches the lives of the LGBT senior community through membership inclusive of age, gender, race, nationality and religion. We believe this can be accomplished by sponsoring social alternatives to provide personal interaction, offering educational opportunities to deal with the special needs of aging, and promoting contact with the isolated and home-bound persons of our community. SAGE is also an advocate for the concerns and needs of the senior LGBT community at large, providing referral information of community resources and promoting inter-generational communication in the LGBT community.
SAGE of South Florida (along with the Pride Center) is home to SAGEWorks, an employment assistance program for LGBT mature workers (age 40 and older) who need or want to return to work. The mission of SAGEWorks is to improve the capacity of LGBT older adults to remain productive, vital and contributing members of the nation’s workforce.
In 2014 we celebrated 20 years of service to the Community. Rather than separate Anniversary and Holiday Parties, a lavish HoliVersary party was held at the Westin Ft. Lauderdale Hotel, in December. The Mayor of Wilton Manors, FL., as well as the Former Mayor (and sitting City Commissioner) of Margate, FL. attended.
Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation
Our Annual Meeting was held in March, 2015 at Galuppi's Restaurant at the Pompano Beach Golf Course. The Board of Directors was elected. Awards were presented to our top donors of 2014 and a special Spirit of SAGE Award was presented to a member who volunteered time and energy not only to SAGE of South Florida, but also to other LGBT organizations throughout the year. Male and Female Volunteer of the Year Awards were also presented.
