Patrick AitchesonChief of Staff
Patrick Aitcheson is the Chief of Staff at Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE), the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of LGBT older adults. Previously Patrick worked for the Diverse Elders Coalition (DEC) for two years, most recently as Interim National Coordinator. The DEC, of which SAGE is a founding member, advocates for policies and programs that improve aging in our communities as racially and ethnically diverse people; American Indians and Alaska Natives; and lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (LGBT) people. In his roles at the DEC, Patrick worked to implement the advocacy and education strategies of the DEC, as well as to build online awareness of the many issues facing elders of color and LGBT elders.
Patrick brings with him expertise around the prevention and awareness of HIV/AIDS. For fourteen years, he worked on the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) HIV/AIDS hotline as a counselor, peer supervisor and trainer. On the hotline, Patrick counseled people dealing with the health, economic and social isolation issues related both to getting older and to long-term HIV infection and HIV medication usage.
Previously, he has designed, developed and managed a full-service family day care program for Union Settlement Association and supervised a five-classroom day care center. His business experience includes being a plant manager and plant controller for Formica Corporation and a financial analyst at a Boston investment firm. Patrick has his undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
