Bill Mendez, MSWCare Manager
William Mendez is a Care Manager at The SAGE Center, the nation’s first full-time center dedicated to LGBT older adults. In his role, he provides information, referrals, assistance with entitlements /benefits, and help with housing issues. He also runs an HIV support group for men over 50 dealing with issues around HIV and aging.
William has been in the field of HIV for more than ten years. Prior to his role at SAGE, he was the Supportive/Care Coordinator at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center in the ICC (Intensive Care Coordination) program for individuals who were HIV positive. This was a program designed to help individuals who had fallen out of medical care for various reasons to reconnect with a medical provider. He was the Clinical Supervisor for the HIV Department at Morris Heights Health Center, where he provided one-on-one counseling and ran groups in Spanish for both men and women. Joining SAGE represents a new challenge for him, since he has not previously worked with the LGBT older adult population.
William holds a Master’s degree from Hunter College School of Social Work. Prior to entering the field of health care, he worked in the financial industry. He is an avid theater and film lover. He presently resides in Northern New Jersey and is the proud father of a former Navy Pilot.
