Jenna McDavidNational Managing Coordinator, Diverse Elders Coalition
Jenna McDavid is the National Managing Coordinator for the Diverse Elders Coalition (DEC). The DEC advocates for policies and programs that improve aging in our communities as racially and ethnically diverse people; American Indians and Alaska Natives; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/ or transgender people. Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) serves as the fiscal sponsor for the coalition, which also includes: the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA), the National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA), the National Indian Council on Aging, Inc. (NICOA), and the Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC). Jenna’s work for the coalition includes developing and implementing national strategies related to key coalition priorities, managing internal and external communications, coordinating logistics for coalition events and meetings, and cultivating relationships with media, funders, and constituents.
Prior to working with the DEC, Jenna managed the National LGBT Cancer Network’s groundbreaking Support Groups for LGBTQ Survivors and helped to develop and deliver LGBTQ cultural competency trainings for healthcare and social services providers. She was also one of the coordinators of the 2014 National Summit on Cancer in the LGBT Communities, the first conference of its kind to bring together advocates, survivors, policymakers, and providers to develop an Action Plan for improving the care of LGBTQ cancer survivors. Her passion is collecting and preserving stories from our diverse communities, the voices of which are too often silenced.
Jenna holds a B.A. in Business Management from SUNY Brockport and attended post-baccalaureate studies at Columbia University. Her work has been featured in Living Opposed to Violence and Exploitation [LOVE], Our Hen House, SuperVegan, Paper and Twine, Animal Voices, and The End of Prisons: Reflections from the Decarceration Movement.
