David Braff is the managing partner of Sullivan & Cromwell’s Litigation Group. He is a member of the Firm’s Management Committee.

Mr. Braff has worked on a wide variety of matters, with a particular emphasis on banking and securities litigation, including securities class actions. He has also litigated intellectual property, tax and employment matters, and handled a wide variety of regulatory and criminal matters.

Mr. Braff has been recognized as a star in litigation (New York) by Euromoney’s Benchmark: America’s Leading Litigation Firms and Attorneys (2009, 2008); in corporate governance by The Legal 500, United States, Volume I (2009, 2007); in securities shareholder litigation by The Legal 500, United States, Volume III (2009, 2007); in securities litigation by New York Super Lawyers (2009, 2008, 2007, 2006); in commercial litigation by The Best Lawyers in America (2010, 2009, 2008); and as a leading litigator in Lawdragon’s “100 Lawyers You Need to Know in Securities Litigation” (2008), The Lawdragon 500: Leading Lawyers in America (2008) and The Lawdragon 500: The Leading Litigators in America (2006).

David Braff has served for many years as a member of the board of The New York Lawyers for the Public interest.

Since 1985 he has acted as counsel on numerous pro bono cases for Lambda Legal Defense, the ACLU LGBT Project, and GMHC, including: representation of The Gay Teachers Association in a landmark case against the City of New York seeking domestic partnership benefits for City employees, representation of gay and lesbian service members in Able v. USA, the primary challenge to the "don't ask/ don’t tell" legislation prohibiting gay service members from serving openly in the military, representation of The Gay Veterans Association in a suit against the American Legion and New York City for refusing to permit the gay veterans to participate in the annual Veterans Day Parade, and (for GMHC) representation of individuals in a challenge to pre-arraignment incarceration practices in New York City that included deprivation of HIV medications.

David Braff has been a part of the SAGE Board since September, 2009.
